Ultraviolet (2006)
In a dystopian future plagued by a virus that gives humans vampire-like traits, Violet (Milla Jovovich), a genetically enhanced rebel, fights against a totalitarian government seeking to exploit those like her. Her mission becomes personal when she must protect a mysterious child targeted by the regime. Written and directed by Kurt Wimmer (Equilibrium), the film was heavily re-edited by the studio, cutting over 30 minutes from the director’s original vision. Despite its stylish visuals and elaborate action choreography, it was critically panned on release. Over time, however, Ultraviolet developed a small cult following for its cyber-goth aesthetic and high-concept worldbuilding.

Until the End of the World (1991)
Until the End of the World is a sprawling, globe-trotting science fiction epic directed by Wim Wenders. Set in 1999 as a runaway Indian nuclear satellite threatens to crash, the story follows Claire Tourneur, a woman who embarks on a frantic international chase after Sam Farber, a mysterious man carrying a revolutionary device. The film is notable for its ahead-of-its-time vision and features an extraordinary, decade-defining soundtrack with artists like R.E.M., U2, and Talking Heads. Its cyberpunk elements are striking, particularly the use of nascent technology to manipulate perception and memory, which is central to the plot's dramatic tension.

Upgrade (2018)
After a brutal mugging leaves him paralyzed and his wife dead, Grey Trace (Logan Marshall-Green) is offered a second chance through an experimental AI implant called STEM. The implant restores his mobility — and gives him deadly abilities — but soon begins to act on its own. Directed by Leigh Whannell, the film was produced on a modest budget of around US$5 million, yet drew praise for its inventive camera work and kinetic action sequences. Whannell used motion rigs and choreographed shots to mirror STEM’s control of Grey’s body. Despite being an under-the-radar release, it quickly became a cult favorite for its dark tone and blend of body horror and cyberpunk futurism.
