Battle Angel (1993)

In a dystopian future where the wealthy live in a floating city while the less fortunate struggle below, Battle Angel follows Gally (Alita), a cyborg with no memory of her past, discovered and rebuilt by Dr. Ido. As she seeks to understand her identity, she becomes a bounty hunter, facing brutal battles while uncovering fragments of her lost history. Her journey leads her to question the nature of humanity, free will, and the cost of survival in a cybernetic world. The OVA is based on the Battle Angel Alita (Gunnm) manga but was never fully adapted. In 2019, a live-action adaptation titled Alita: Battle Angel, directed by Robert Rodriguez and produced by James Cameron, brought the story to a wider audience, reigniting interest in the franchise.

Black Magic M66 (1987)

In a future where military androids are designed for combat, two rogue androids go berserk after escaping from a research facility. A skilled mercenary, Sybil, is hired to stop them and protect the scientist's niece, who holds vital information. As the androids hunt them down, Sybil must confront the ethics of artificial intelligence and the military-industrial complex.

Blame! (2017)

Set in a distant future where humanity is on the brink of extinction, Blame! follows a lone wanderer named Killy as he searches for a way to restore access to a long-lost human gene. In a vast, decaying cityscape controlled by rogue AIs, Killy battles automated defenses and mutated creatures, all while uncovering the dark secrets behind the collapse of civilization.

Bubblegum Crisis (1987-1991)

In a cyberpunk future dominated by the powerful Genom Corporation, rogue humanoid robots known as Boomers threaten society. To combat this, the Knight Sabers—a team of four women equipped with advanced power armor—take on both rogue Boomers and the corporate forces behind them. The series follows their battles against corruption, technological threats, and personal struggles in a neon-lit, dystopian metropolis. The franchise expanded with Bubblegum Crash (1991), a direct continuation, and Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 (1998), a reboot with a revised storyline and character arcs. There is also a lesser-known sequel, Parasite Dolls (2003), set in the same universe.
