Serial Experiments Lain (1998)
Lain Iwakura, a quiet and introverted girl, receives an email from a deceased classmate, leading her into the depths of The Wired—a global virtual network similar to the internet. In the year 2023, Tokyo is under siege by interdimensional beings known as Lucifer Hawks. Led by Katsumi Liqueur, the squad consists of women with unique abilities, blending magic and technology to protect the city from an impending invasion. As they battle the Lucifer Hawks, they uncover hidden truths about their origins and the fate of humanity. While Silent Möbius contains cyberpunk elements such as megacorporations, advanced technology, and a futuristic urban setting, it leans more toward supernatural sci-fi and occult themes rather than a purely cyberpunk narrative. The combination of mysticism and cybernetic advancements makes it a unique hybrid within the genre.
